RULES
1) Family must be preregistered before 5 pm on the Friday of the fair. Registration is free for a family. To register contact Dawn Dawson at providencebayfair@gmail.com or phone 705-377-5003. Download the registration form here. Registration must include all family members that will be taking part in events throughout the weekend to a maximum of 20 people.
2) A “Family” can consist of family members of all ages - moms, dads, children, sisters, brothers, sister-in-law, brother-in-law, grandkids, cousins - BUT all family member names must be on list of family names at time of registration to take part in an activity.
3) All rules of activities must be followed.
4) All team members must have a wrist band.
5) Family points will be accumulated in the fair office over the course of the weekend and displayed. The winning team will be announced after the entertainment on Sunday afternoon at the main stage area, at approx. 3:30 pm.
6) The winning family will get their name on a trophy to be displayed throughout the year at the Manitoulin Meat Boss in Providence Bay, and bragging rights for the upcoming year!

ACTIVITIES AND POINTS:

***NEW for 2019 *** FAMILY SCAVENGER HUNT
In the hopes to give all family members activities during the course of the weekend, a weekend scavenger hunt has been added. Clues must be found through out the weekend. Clue sheets may be obtained at the office starting Friday, August 16th at 5 pm, and answers/items/photos/etc must be submitted/shown to the office before 2 pm on Sunday, August 18th to be processed.
Points: 3 pts for entering, 5 pts - 3rd place, 8 pts - 2nd place, 10 pts - 1st place

Prior to the Fair - HAY BALE STRUCTURE COMPETITION (must be assembled and registered by Saturday, August 10th)
Share the joy the Providence Bay Fair brings to your family in your own field or yard. Each structure will be judged on how it promotes the theme, fun or events at the fair. Structures must be registered on or before Saturday, August 10, 2019 by emailing providencebayfair@gmail.com or calling 705-377-5003. Structures/displays must be clearly visible from the nearest road. Judging will take place Sunday, August 11.
There are two categories to choose from. Families may enter into only one of the following categories:
LARGE HAY STRUCTURE - using primarily big round bales
Points: 5 pts for entering, 10 pts - 3rd place, 12 pts - 2nd place, 15 pts - 1st place
FRONT YARD DISPLAY - using any materials
Points: 3 pts for entering, 5 pts - 3rd place, 8 pts - 2nd place, 10 pts - 1st place

Friday, August 16th - HAY BALE MAZE RACE
This event is for the younger members of the family!
Will take place at the Kids Zone at 5:30 pm.
One young family member will race through the hay bale maze without having been through it previously. Contestant order through the maze will be randomly determined. Contestants yet to race should be facing away and/or blindfolded until their turn. Fastest time through wins!
Points: 3 pts for entering, 5 pts - 3rd place, 8 pts - 2nd place, 10 pts - 1st place

Friday August 16th – PIE EATING CONTEST
Will take place in the arena at 8:30 pm.
Only one Family Member may be registered for this event and space is limited. Register before Thursday, August 15th with Dawn Dawson. No late entries will be accepted for this event due to the fact that we will not have enough pies!
Points: 3 pts for entering, 5 pts - 3rd place, 8 pts - 2nd place, 10 pts - 1st place (places for points determined between family fun competitors only)

Saturday August 17th – PARADE ENTRY (float, bike, horse or group walking)
Meet behind the curling club by 10:30 am. Entry must be in place before 11 am or it will not be judged!
The family must register their parade entries with Bev McDermid (mcdermid@amtelecom.net, 705-377-4668, or 705-348-2810) before Saturday morning.
FLOATS:
Must be entered under the fair theme category - one per family
Points: 5 pts for entering, 10 pts - 3rd place, 12 pts - 2nd place, 15 pts - 1st place (places for points determined between family fun competitors only)
OTHER PARADE ENTRIES: (Horses, Decorated Vehicles, Miniature Vehicles (e.g. Power Wheels), Bicycles, or Walking Participants)
Judged against all other family entries, regardless of type of entry - one per family for points
Points: 3 pts for entering, 5 pts - 3rd place, 8 pts - 2nd place, 10 pts - 1st place

Saturday August 17th – FAMILY TUG-O-WAR
Will take place at the Kids Zone at 3:00 pm.
Rules: 6 adult family members maximum on team
Depending on numbers, each family will pull once against every other family or families will be divided into two groups. Number of pull wins will be tallied and used to determine final placement for points. Ties will be broken by having another pull. If numbers allow, a kids pull may be added.
Points: 3 pts for entering, 5 pts - 3rd place, 8 pts - 2nd place, 10 pts - 1st place

Saturday August 17th – FAMILY RELAY OBSTACLE RACE
Will take place at the Kids Zone at 3:00 pm.
Rules: A relay obstacle course will be set up. Four members of your family will have to manoeuvre through the obstacle course against another family.
Points: 3 pts for entering, 5 pts - 3rd place, 8 pts - 2nd place, 10 pts - 1st place

Saturday August 17th - MANITOULIN’S GOT TALENT
Starts at 7:30 pm in the arena.
The family member must register with Karlene Scott (karlene.scott@live.com or 705-377-5283) before noon on Saturday.
There will be 6 judges in the audience, unidentified, that will be taking into consideration their personal opinion, as well as audience reaction.
Points: 3 pts for entering, 5 pts - 3rd place, 8 pts - 2nd place, 10 pts - 1st place

Sunday August 18th – PAPER BOAT RACE
This event is for the younger members of the family!
Takes place at 11:30 am at the livestock area. Participants will bring from home a paper boat, one per family. The boat will sail across a trench using a straw to blow it across.
Rules for Boat Construction:
1. The final boat must be no longer than 8 inches and no wider than 5 inches.
2. The boat must be made primarily of paper with the following exceptions:
    - The boats may be fastened with glue or adhesive tape.
    - Wood may be used for the construction of masts.
    - A thread or string may be used to support the mast and sails.
Points: 3 pts for entering, 5 pts - 3rd place, 8 pts - 2nd place, 10 pts - 1st place

Sunday August 18th – FARM OLYMPICS
Takes place at 2:00 pm at the Kids Zone. There will be three events. Five family members are needed to fully participate. Each family member can only compete in one event.
SQUARE BALE THROW
Two family members will each throw a square bale as far as they can.
The two throws will be added together to determine the overall results.
Points: 3 pts for entering, 5 pts - 3rd place, 8 pts - 2nd place, 10 pts - 1st place
POTATO SACK RACE
One family member will race a certain distance while hopping in a potato sack.
One race of all families will take place.
Points: 3 pts for entering, 5 pts - 3rd place, 8 pts - 2nd place, 10 pts - 1st place
WHEELBARROW RELAY
Two family members will compete as a team. One member will race in one direction, then they must turn the wheelbarrow and the other member will race back.
Multiple races may required depending on the # of families and the # of wheelbarrows available.
Points: 3 pts for entering, 5 pts - 3rd place, 8 pts - 2nd place, 10 pts - 1st place

All Weekend - SOCIAL MEDIA CHALLENGE
Take a picture of family members with the “Farmer & Winning Pig” or the “Rollercoaster Family” Photo Board located by livestock stalls. Photo must be used on a social media site such as Instagram or Facebook with #providencebayfair and #familyfun2019
Points: 3 pts for participating, 5 pts - 30+ likes, 8 pts - 50+ likes, 10 pts if over 100 likes

***Coming in 2020 *** FAMILY FUN EXHIBITS
Just a heads up that in 2020 there will be 4 exhibit hall entries added to the activities. Families will have to prepare these entries prior to the fair and be entered at the exhibit hall before 11 am on Friday, August 21st, 2020. They will be judged along with all other exhibit hall entries that day. One entry will be a photo display of a family project or event. You may want to take photos in 2019 to be used for this project. The complete list of entries can be found in the 2020-2021 Exhibit Book, which will be available at the 2019 fair.
